Top Problems With HP Printers and Their Solutions

In spite of having reliable printing machines and despite your best efforts, HP printers often fail. Why? There may be several reasons for displaying HP printer’s malfunction and display messages. Here we have listed 10 general HP printer problems and their solutions.

  1. Toner smears or does not fit on the page

Check the fuser. If it is close to the end, replace it. If you do not know how to replace fusers, then look at your HP Printer Support Manual which originally came with the HP printer setup kit. Occasionally, the fuser displays a clean fusor input message. It is a clear indication that the fuser needs a cleanup. Open the front door on your HP printer. Check if you see a blue brush there (must be one). Take the toner cartridge from the printer to access the Fuser input assembly.

The assembly is located at the top of the black toner cartridge port. Take out the blue brush and clean the assembly. The cleanup process is for the HP Color LaserJet 5500 printer. If you have a different printer, then see its manual. If it is not a fuser, then it can be a toner cartridge which is either bad or close to the end. Even in that case, you will need to change it. If toner is neither bad nor close to the end, clean toner cartridge assembly.

  • Paper jam

Paper Jam is not only with HP printers but also the most common printer problems with all printer brands and models. Paper pits can be jammed for many reasons with torn paper bits, carefully looking for wrong paper tray, selected wrong paper type, loose paper roller, and a type of dust etc. Inside the paper tray and check out the print paper. If any pieces of paper are stuck inside, then remove them. Check that the paper tray has the right type of paper in the printer’s control panel.

If it is different, the printer will experience a paper jam problem. Make sure the paper type corresponds to what printer properties are in. If not, then fix it. Also, make sure the printer prints on the right paper tray. The failure of the paper will be jammed. If the roller looks loose, then take it tightly. If the roller looks shiny, it may require replacement. Also, never drag the paper in the opposite direction. Always drag it into Paper Path Direction.

When in the Run dialog box, type ‘services.msc’ (without quotes) and press Enter. This will take you to the Services window. On the right hand side, look for the print spooler, right-click it and select Restart. If prompted, confirm the action and exit the service window. If prompted, restart your computer. When done, test a print page.

  • Printout is very light, there are spots

Often a printer starts printing light or speckled when the ink toner cartridge either dries up or is full. Remove Ink \ Toner Cartridge Take a soft cloth and immerse it in hot water or alcohol. Now rub soft clothes against print head. Also, rub it under the nozzle of the printer. This will soften the ink and allow the printer to print properly. Put the ink cartridge back in place.
